40 Days of Prayer Chain
Until you build a habit of prayer, it can be easy to start something like 40 Days of Prayer and see it turn out to be 14 Days of Prayer. Sometimes a simple, visible, tangible act can give us motivation in our devotion. That’s why you might want to create a prayer chain!
For each of the 40 days, cut a strip of paper and write a word, phrase, or sentence representing your prayer, burden, or confession, then loop it together using tape or glue into a link. Then the next day, do it again, linking Day 2 to Day 1 until you have a chain of prayers 40 links long. On the 40th day, Good Friday, bring your prayer chain and leave it at the foot of the cross in the lobby and see a visible picture of a praying church.
This is a fantastic devotional craft for families, letting kids and adults alike know that they can bring their requests to Jesus.
In Matthew Chapter 11:28-30, Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke on you and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and my load is not hard to carry.”
When we lay our prayers, burdens, and confessions at the feet of Jesus, He bears the load of answering, relieving, and forgiving us through His finished work on the cross.
